FCDCP’s Adult Day Program offers a variety of programs and activities to assist adults with disabilities to progress, learn, grow, participate in the community, make new friends and have fun. ​ ADULT DAY PROGRAM Supporting people as they become more empowered to pursue independence and a fulfilled, thriving life. We are here to support you every step of the way, offering guidance, encouragement, and resources to help you reach your goals. BOARD OF DIRECTORS Passionate and dedicated individuals who volunteer their time and expertise to help us achieve our mission. Maria Mowder, President Maria has lived in Lancaster for 13 years and is an active volunteer with the high school and Lancaster Baseball Extra Inners club. Maria also leads the Lancaster MS self-help group and is an active participant in the Walk MS event. Maria is a Credentials Coordinator at Fairfield Medical Center. Read More David Macioci, Vice President David has lived in Lancaster since 1951. He is a graduate of Ohio University and obtained his Master’s Degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University. He has taught at Forest Rose School, Fisher Catholic High School, Ohio University - Lancaster and was the State of Ohio Activity Administrator II. He has served on the YMCA Board of Directors, was a Charter Board member of the Fairfield County Community Challenge, and is currently a 28 year Board member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society Board of which he held the office of Interim President for 3 years. Read More Mary Snider, Treasurer Mary has been a longtime resident of Fairfield County and Lancaster. She is President and CEO of Fairfield Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mary earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University and a Master of Business Administration from The Ohio State University. In addition to the Center, Mary serves on the Ohio University Coordinating Council and the Fairfield County Revolving Loan Fund. He retired from United Parcel Service in 2015 after 30 years of service as an automotive and air ground support supervisor. Ken suffers from MS, diabetes and heart disease. As a way of giving back, he rebuilds wheelchairs and customizes them to give to people who otherwise would be unable to afford one. Read More Brian Shonk, Board Member Brian is a Lancaster native and a Fisher Catholic graduate. He is a partner in Dagger, Johnston, Miller, Ogilvie & Hampson Law Firm in Lancaster, OH, focusing on estate planning, trust and probate administration and closely-held businesses. He obtained his Undergraduate Degree from Case Western Reserve University and his Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School in 1986, joining the Dagger Firm in 1987. Brian has been and continues to be involved in many community service organizations, including Board Member and President (1995-96) of the Fairfield County Board of MR/DD, the Fisher Catholic Foundation (1996-2012), United Way Campaign Chair (2012), Chairman of the Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce (2016) and Board Member of the Fairfield County Foundation (2013-19). Read More Kathy Stimmell, Board Member Kathy has been a resident of Lancaster since 1972. She was, for a short time, an employee of Fairfield Industries, and then a 10-year employee of United Cerebral Palsy of Fairfield County. She started Stimmell’s Boarding Care (a semi-independent living family home) in 1986, and in 1996 she opened Stimmell’s Elder Care (a private 24 hour residential care center). In 2020, after 36 years, Kathy retired and is living the good life! He attended Ohio University Lancaster from 1970-1971, and went on to work at the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services in Management for over 30 years. David worked as the Adult Day Service Manager at the Fairifeld Center for disABILITIES until his retirement in 2021, and now volunteers weekly at the Center's Adult Day Program. Read More

PAYNE, MD FORMER CEO OUR HISTORY For nearly 70 years, Fairfield Center for Independence has remained at the forefront of empowering people within our community. In 1954, United Cerebral Palsy was officially incorporated, thus providing the foundation on which the Organization would be built. A separate but similar Company, The Fairfield Council for the Disabled, was established as a non-profit Adult Day Center in 1981, and the two Organizations operated alongside and with each other until 1993, when they merged to create Fairfield Center for disABILITIES & Cerebral Palsy, Inc. (FCdCP). With an ever-increasing need for services in Fairfield County, FCdCP experienced steady growth. Over the next several years, three more Programs were added: Medical Appointment Transportation, Ramp and Home Modifications, and the Equipment Loan Closet. These with the original Adult Day Program enabled FCdCP to better meet a wider range of individual needs. In 2023, FCdCP changed its name to Fairfield Center for Independence (FCI), to better reflect its purpose of supporting people as they strive to live independent, fulfilled lives. The Organization continues to operate its Programs and Services with the goal of fostering individual growth, empowerment, and well-being. ADMINISTRATION & ADULT DAY STAFF TRANSPORTATION STAFF EMOTIONAL SUPPORT TEAM BILLIE, ESA Hi, I'm Billie! I volunteer at FCI as an Emotional Support Animal, and assist regularly in the Adult Day Program. When I was a baby, I had an eye infection and had to have both eyes removed. With lots of love and support from my mommy Cassidy, I've developed my other senses and am able to navigate my surroundings using smell and sound. My favorite part of my job is helping people feel better when they're sad or scared, and providing entertainment by chasing my toys. When I'm not at The Center, I enjoy playing with my kitty siblings at home, sitting outside, and taking hikes with my mommy. I'm also fond of pulling shoes out of closets and attacking toes. HANZO, ESA What's up, I'm Hanzo! I am an ESA and the Offical Good Boy of the Center for Independence. I was adopted in 2023 by my dad, Josh. On a regular basis, he takes me to work with him to visit. My job is very important: making people smile and laugh, and getting lots of pats on the head! It's a tough gig, but someone's gotta do it. FCdCP offers medical transportation both in and out of Fairfield County and non-medical transportation for adults with disabilities to our ADS Program, along with other needs (ie: shopping, banking, visitations and also funerals for immediate family members.)
